Coachella Q&A: Martin Garrix
We've said it before, and we'll say it again, Martin Garrix's music is arena-sized with progressive melody-driven builds and high-energy drops which makes for a powerful and addictive offering. Over the years, he's gone from numbing us with his remix of The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” to original songs like "Poison" which we did not hesitate to drink right up. The young, Dutch DJ and producer could basically lead us out to the open desert battling high temps, or force us to swim through a crowded sea of wild animals to witness his reign in the flesh. Yes, I'm low-key talking about Coachella and after this Saturday, Martin should release a new single called "I Tried To Warn You!" with a B-side titled "Just Drink Some Gatorade, You'll Be Fine."
Leading up to this weekend's festivities, we had the opportunity to sent Martin some Q's to A -- everything from what's in his desert survival bag to which celebrity he'd choose to be front and center during his set if he could, and lots more! Check it, below.
When the Coachella lineup was announced, what's the best reaction you received from a fan, friend, or family member?
I think my own reaction to be honest! I’m so excited to perform at Coachella again. After three years to date it’s still one of my favorite shows I’ve ever played.
As a Coachella veteran, what are you most excited about?
Just to check out all these acts and get inspired myself. The whole festival itself is an amazing experience. I love the vibe of the festival and always love to hang there with friends. I’ve seen so many amazing performances by great artists at Coachella, it’s insane!
What's in your Coachella survival bag and does that bag include any extra special add-ons for your set that we can look forward to?
I should not forget to bring something like a scarf against the dust, haha - every year I forget how windy it can get there. I have so many surprises for this years performance… everyone should just come and see it for themselves!
Describe how you envision the day of your performance to go:
I don’t really have a schedule yet. We’ll see how it goes. I’m just super excited!! For now I am in LA tweaking the last bits of my show with my team and getting everything ready for the weekend.
If you could have any celebrity front row during your show who would it be?
Pharrell
Out of all of your fellow Coachella artists performing, whose show are you most looking forward to watching?
That’s a difficult question since there are so many great artists on the lineup. I always love watching artists I’ve never heard of before, but of course I will also have a look when the headliners are performing!
Post-Coachella, anything exciting on the horizon we should know about and share with the universe?
Absolutely! I have a very exciting summer coming up with my shows in Ibiza at Hï and Ushuaïa, I’m playing loads of amazing festivals and I will definitely keep on releasing new music throughout the year.
Describe yourself with three emojis.
