Coachella Q&A: Tourist

Over the years I've written a handful of terrible travel puns dedicated to Tourist. From earning a passport stamp with each release to checking my emotional baggage while listening to some of his more bittersweet dance tracks, no feelings are left unexplored.  But with the London-based songwriter and electronic beat-maker at the helm, I'm never worried about getting steered in the wrong direction.

We had the opportunity to host a Q&A with Tourist leading up to the his performances at this year's Coachella Music Festival (where we're told he'll be debuting new music!). We covered everything from what's in his travel survival bag, to which fellow-performers he's most looking forward to seeing, and more, below!

When the Coachella lineup was announced, what's the best reaction you received from a fan, friend, or family member?

“What’s Coachella?” - My Mum

Are you a Coachella newbie? If so, what are you most excited or most nervous about? If you're a veteran, what's the one story that encapsulates your most memorable Coachella experience?

This is my second time there, I’m no veteran by any stretch of the imagination but last time Skrillex made me a Gin and Tonic which was really weird / fun.

What's in your Coachella survival bag and does that bag include any extra special add-ons for your set that we can look forward to?

I don’t go anywhere without my personal supply of oxygen and my rejuvenation chamber, I imagine I’ll incorporate them into my performance somehow.

Describe how you envision the day of your performance to go:

9AM: Cry in shower
11AM: Enjoy bowl of Granola
1PM: Worry that stage outfit is wrong
3PM: SHOW TIME!
5PM: Complain to tour manager that the crowd reaction wasn’t what I was expecting
7PM: Cry in rejuvenation chamber
9PM: Experience social awkwardness backstage
11PM: Bed time

If you could have any celebrity front row during your show who would it be?

Jesus

Out of all of your fellow Coachella artists performing, whose show are you most looking forward to watching?

Radiohead / Father John Misty / Four Tet

What was the last song you listened to on repeat?

Probably one of mine.

If you could partner with any brand, who would it be and why?

I don’t know which brand, but I certainly know not Pepsi.

Post-Coachella, anything exciting on the horizon we should know about and share with the universe?

New music, new feelings.

Describe yourself with three emojis.
