[Best of 2013] Favorite Solo Performer : Stromae

Belgian mega-star Stromae had a glorious comeback this year. The singer/rapper/producer began leaking videos for his sophomore follow up to 'Cheese,' in early 2013, and finally dropped the record in the Fall. 'Racine Carrée' itself is reason enough to love Stromae, blending French pop, hip hop, modern dance and African styles all into one infectious and socially conscious record, but his presentation with the video for Papaoutai, and most importantly, the character of Andrea (from the video for Tous Le Memes) really takes the title. He's a performer that bleeds charisma in both his performances and his music, as well as a deft writer, singer, and ultimately one of the few pop stars working, who actually feels like they're actively making art and doing so incredibly well.
