Coachella Q&A: Zipper Club
I can't believe Zipper Club cured asthma with their latest single, "Breath." Basically. And thankfully so, since the trio -- consisting of Lissy Trullie, Mason James of Cerebral Ballzy and Damar Davis -- along with music fans across the world, will congregate to the dusty So Cal desert for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in less than two week's time. Talk about a gust of fresh air. I'm already daydreaming about those vast mountain landscapes, technicolor sunsets and losing track of all time.
We had the opportunity to host a Q&A with Zipper Club leading up to their festival performances Friday April 14th & 21st where we covered everything from what's in their travel survival bag, which fellow-performers they're most excited to see and lots more!
When the Coachella lineup was announced, what's the best reaction you received from a fan, friend, or family member?
Damar: Probably my friend Tom because he’s been there for my whole career from Garage jam sessions now to Coachella
Mason: About a year and a half ago I was talking with my cousin who is in high school about music festivals. I sarcastically told her at the time that the only way she would be allowed to go to Coachella was if i was playing, because its too dangerous for nice girls and I would need to keep an eye on her. When i said that the thought of playing Coachella was not on my radar. Fast forward 6 months and i get a call from my cousin. I picked up the phone, and after a lot of high pitch screaming i was able to discern, "Sooo....... are you gonna take me?" I think she's more excited about me playing Coachella then I am. Not that im not hyped, she's just SUPER HYPED.
Are you a Coachella newbie? If so, what are you most excited or most nervous about? If you're a veteran, what's the one story that encapsulates your most memorable Coachella experience?
Damar: Well last year my girlfriends brother played and I remember telling her during Coachella that I was going to play next year. I don’t know how but that it was going to happen. Speaking things into existence works.
Mason: I went to Coachella when i was 18. Dont really remember much other then a lot of weed and pretty girls. I might have taken something and i think i stared at the sun for a couple hours. In retrospect, not a great idea.
What's in your Coachella survival bag and does that bag include any extra special add-ons for your set that we can look forward to?
Damar: Akai MPK mini, Lap top, Undefeated mophie water bottle and a clean white T
Mason: My survival bag is the same no matter where i am. Weed, money, phone. Give me those three things anywhere in the world and ill be totally fine. I know what your thinking, you cant use money on a deserted island. But i can make a phone call, buy a boat, then smoke myself stupid all the way home.

If you could have any celebrity front row during your show who would it be?
Damar: Sean Combs, Robert Glasper, Morrissey I can’t just pick one
Mason: Donald Trump so i could kick him in the fucking face

If you could partner with any brand, who would it be and why?
Damar: I would do a iPhone or Apple campaignbecause everything they do is timeless.
Mason: NASA, I want to play a show on the moon

Damar: Going to Hawaii with my band mates
