KKS's Top 5 EDX Remixes

EDX Maurizio Colella, better known as producer/DJ, EDX, has been in the dance music scene for 20 years and counting. In his two decades of producing, EDX has put together an impressive discography consisting of an artist album, and countless singles and remixes. Known for his unique progressive style, the dance music veteran has cemented his legacy as one of the best producers in dance music year in and year out.

Recently, EDX has evolved his sound from his classic progressive style into a deeper, groovier house sound to great success. His releases like “Collateral Effects” were met with overwhelmingly positive feedback as EDX showed a mellower vibe of his music, while still staying true to his progressive roots that made him so successful. His latest remix of Nora en Pure and Sons of Maria’s track, “Uruguay,” which currently sits at #1 on Beatport’s Deep House chart, was a resounding success, while his latest masterful original, "Remember House," is following the same path.

EDX has a massive discography that can rival that of any other superstar, so we decided to highlight our top 5 EDX remixes.

1. Kaskade - Angel on My Shoulder (EDX Remix)

EDX took on remixing Kaskade’s iconic track, “Angel on My Shoulder,” years ago, and it has withstood the test of time as a dance classic. A groovy, progressive re-imagination, EDX’s remix showcases the dance music veteran at his best.

2. Beyonce - Why Don’t You Love Me (EDX’s Make People 5mile Remix)

Even though EDX never officially released his remix of Queen B, it was still stunning enough to make this list. Taking on the challenge of remixing Beyonce successfully is difficult, even for superstar producers, but EDX absolutely kills this remix. He keeps Beyonce’s sultry vocals organic while intricately layering uplifting harmonies and synth quivers that bolster her vocals in the track.

3. Avicii - Wake Me Up (EDX Remix)

EDX’s remix of “Wake Me Up” was a departure from his classic progressive style, as he challenged himself creatively and took the track a big room house direction. Colella leaves Aloe Blacc’s vocal riff untouched, but takes the energy of the track up a notch with a banging kick drum and blaring synths.

4. Above & Beyond - Blue Sky Action (EDX’s Indian Summer Remix)

A deeper offering reminiscent of his tracks like “Cool You Off,” EDX’s “Blue Sky Action” remix was the perfect dance floor offering that solidified the Swiss-based producer’s move into a groovier, house style. EDX lets Alex Vargas’ beautiful vocals carry the track, while he weaves together a resolute bassline with infectious hi-hats, before dropping the track into a thumping, bass-heavy, four-on-the-floor beat.

5. Nora en Pure & Sons of Maria - Uruguay (EDX’s Dubai Skyline Remix)

Fresh off the heels of the release of his Collateral Effects EP, EDX took on the challenge of remixing fellow Enormous Tunes label mates, and closed 2014 out strong by delivering one of the best deep house remixes we heard all year. He takes “Uruguay” into a soulful, deep house direction, as he reworks elements of the originals while intertwining smooth melodies with catchy riffs to give the track an addictive groove.
