[BEST OF 2013] Favorite EP: Thief - Closer
Play count alone, proves my obsession with Thief's Closer EP. In fact, I can't even think of an EP that delivers in such florescent fashion; tracks that literally shine with glittering synths and anthemic melodies. If I had a dime for every time I played it and someone either asked "who is this?" or "where can I buy this?" (and I'm talking all walks, and in a variety of settings day and night) I'd be a billionaire.
Thief has crafted a fresh minimalist sound rivaling the likes of contemporaries such as Metronomy, Miike Snow and Frank Ocean. The EP features the highly buzzed about single "Broken Boy" released late last year, along with three more tracks that showcases his eclectic sound perfectly. Influences of Goyte come out in "Closer" while "Cold" is tinged with Pharrell inspired production. For the EP, Thief teamed up with renowned Brisbane-based producer Matt Redlich (Emma Louise, Hungary Kids Of Hungary, Yes You).
