CURXES: Avant Guarded
CURXES [kurs-iz] are Macaulay Hopwood and Roberta Fidora. They meet at a mid point between the coastal towns of Brighton & Portsmouth. From the piers, they come brandishing everything from synthesizers to biros to glockenspiels and use them to create what has been described as "blitz-pop". Their latest single, "Avant Guarded," is about expectations of art, aesthetics, music and even more so, those who create it. Are we trapped in an endless loop of people ‘smashing it’ being ‘totes amazeballs’ and stuck in a climate of those gushing over music/design one minute then completely dismissing it the next? Is everyone getting a fair shot at music and creativity or is it a privilege? What is cultural relevance in the present day? Was "Get Lucky" really the hit of the summer… because it wasn’t theirs.
