Coachella Q&A: TroyBoi
One of South East London's most closely guarded secrets has recently emerged from the shadows and is set to take the music industry by storm. Known as TroyBoi, this multi talented producer signed to Timbaland’s right hand man Jim Beanz and has been on the come up ever since. With a sound that blends classic trap drum programming with esoteric melodies and left of center synthesis, TroyBoi knows how to pack the perfect punch. In his work, bursts of white noise and extreme stereo effects dance in out of existence and rapid-fire sonic palettes switch in and out of focus almost as soon as they come into view. With a slew of credits for Little Mix, Missy Elliot, Zayn, and other, this London native is poised and ready to take 2018 by storm. We were lucky enough to interview this musical maestro leading up to Coachella.
Where were you when you first heard you'll be playing Coachella?
I was on my ‘Left Is Right’ tour in the US and I got a call from my manager. I was over the moon! I had always seen and heard such great things about Coachella so I was honored to be asked to play there.
When the Coachella lineup was announced, what's the best reaction you received from a fan, friend, or family member?
The reactions from everyone have all been crazy! Super supportive and happy I’m playing. Some fans have never had chance to see me play and Coachella will be their first time, so the hype in the comments on instagram is real!
Are you a Coachella newbie? If so, what are you most excited or most nervous about? If you're a veteran, what's the one story that encapsulates your most memorable Coachella experience?
This will be my first time a Coachella. As well as performing, I’m looking forward to enjoying the other acts that will be playing too. I like walking around at the festivals so I’m looking forward to exploring so I can leave with a true Coachella experience.
What's in your Coachella survival bag and does that bag include any extra special add-ons for your set that we can look forward to?
My phone, water, Coachella stage map, hand sanitizer, wallet! Lol. All I will say about my set is that my goal as always is to entertain, and entertain I will.
If you could have any celebrity front row during your show who would it be?
Pharrell, he’s such a G.
Out of all of your fellow Coachella artists performing, whose show are you most looking forward to watching?
I’m looking forward to watching Jamiroquai perform, I need to hear Virtual Insanity live!

Mac Demarco - On the Level
Post-Coachella, anything exciting on the horizon we should know about and share with the universe?
I’m working on lots of new music. I like surprises so the universe will soon find out ;)
