To all the songwriters out there, take heed, this is how you do melody. Before I even elaborate on production, lyrics, etc I legit need to take a second to address this. Where most songs lean heavy on bombastic studio tricks, Waking Up Slow is an unabashed masterclass in what happens when you have a room full of spectacular melodists sit down and work a song’s potential to what it really deserves. The production on Gabrielle Aplin's tune brings a glimmering, prismatic backbone to the topline while geometric drums stencil out the low end. I don’t use this word often, but Waking Up Slowis a sublime piece of music. Listen. Lots.
