EXES: Cain

I like to think Venice beach-based duo EXES and myself are two of a kind — in a world that isn’t always (kind).  If ever you need a pick-me-up, boy do I have you covered.  Who's familiar with Las Vegas’s FOX5 Surprise Squad?  These human angels float into the lives of people in need and turn their upside-down situations right side up. I dare you to click here, watch a couple videos, and not cry through a box of tissues.

EXES’s latest song, "Cain" — a heartfelt account of loss on a very personal level — is the equivalent to Surprise Squad’s videos, in this case, making the day a little brighter for those listening in. Ask Emma Roberts and she'll agree.

Cain might be the most difficult and personal song we’ve ever written. Cain was my muse—my inspiration—my first love. Although we were thousand of miles apart, we somehow found each other years ago. Our virtual relationship was composed purely of poems, songs, words, emails. I was never able to touch or meet Cain—he passed away in 2015. 6 months after his death, in what felt like a movie, I flew to England to meet his friends and family. This song is about that night I spent with his mom and best friend drinking champagne and dancing until the sun came up—reminiscing on a love that almost and will always be.
