The Magnettes: Renegades

Without getting too political, the title of The Magnettes' latest single, "Renegades," could be the theme song to the majority of Americans right now.  None of these people want to desert or betray their country, but when your president tweets a GIF of him body-slamming a CNN logo, it's difficult to wrestle together one's normal set of principles.

This fearless fuck-pop trio, who hail from the small town of Pajala -- a Stockholm-adjacent town above the Arctic Circle where... the sun doesn’t rise in winter?! -- function left of center. They put one arm around the ugly and weird, which they deem cool, and the other straight-arming the patriarchy.  So, without further ado, or the need to fuel my own fire, you'll want to roll up your sleeves on this one, and huddle in.

This is about getting bruised up on one of those Northern summer nights when the sun never goes down. “Vittula,” mentioned in the second verse, is the traditional name of a part of Pajala where people had lots of babies. The literal translation of it is The Pussy Moor’.
