Coachella Q&A: Klangstof

This Friday at the Coachella Music and Arts Feastival, Klangstof will be performing on the Gobi stage -- so taking that into consideration along with the nearest patch of grass and beer garden, you should be able to triangulate my location.  These guys ooze festival vibes with sweeping indie electronic tunes that give the sun a run for its warmth.

We had the opportunity to host a Q&A with Koen from the band, leading up to their performance where we covered everything from what's in their travel survival bag, to which fellow-performers they're most looking forward to seeing, and more.  Check it out, below!

When the Coachella lineup was announced, what's the best reaction you received from a fan, friend, or family member?

I think that would have been us not believing it until we actually saw the line-up. We must be the least known act on this year’s bill. That feels very special in a weird way.

Are you a Coachella newbie? If so, what are you most excited or most nervous about? If you're a veteran, what's the one story that encapsulates your most memorable Coachella experience?

Definitely a newbie. It’s our first ever US-festival. So I don’t really know what to expect. I guess that’s a pretty nerve wrecking thing. And the heat might be a bit too much for a bunch of Scandinavian dudes.

What's in your Coachella survival bag and does that bag include any extra special add-ons for your set that we can look forward to?

We got some special Norwegian tobacco with us, called Snus. You put under your lip, and we kind of use it every time we feel too stressed out. It’s a bad habit, but we feel like we need it when trying to survive in these conditions. We’re also still working on some cool light installments, and a lot of synthesizers that need to go in the bag.

Describe how you envision the day of your performance to go:

9AM: Breakfast, meditation

11AM: Build up, more meditation

1PM: Show time, this is where we need the Snus

3PM: Hopefully we’ll be exhausted, happy, overwhelmed and all that

5PM: Trying to say hi to Thom Yorke

7PM: Trying to say hi to Thom Yorke

9PM: Trying to say hi to Thom Yorke

11PM: Watch Radiohead, still trying to say hi

If you could have any celebrity front row during your show who would it be?

I don’t think I even need to answer this one. Haha.

Out of all of your fellow Coachella artists performing, whose show are you most looking forward to watching?

Ok, So Radiohead is on top of that list. Really want to see Kendrick, the XX, Mac DeMarco, Jagwar Ma, Martin Garrix. I could go on for ages.

What was the last song you listened to on repeat?

“HUMBLE” by Kendrick. I checked it out in the studio. The production is very different and fresh. I like that.

If you could partner with any brand, who would it be and why?

I would love to get one of those artist series Fender’s one day. I got mine painted and have used it since I was 14. It sounds like a ruined guitar. It makes it very personal. I would love to get an exact copy of that guitar, so I can actually break it one day without feeling too bad about it.

Post-Coachella, anything exciting on the horizon we should know about and share with the universe?

We are touring through the US with the Flaming Lips and Miike Snow until July. Really looking forward to that run. Also, getting home again after that to get some new work done is something we’re looking really forward to.
