Moullinex - Open House
Visiting open houses on Sundays is one of my favorites things to do. It is not below me to dress up in character, bring out a British accent, pocket cookies realtors put out for normal people, you name it. It gives me a rush. So you can imagine my excitement seeing Moullinex's new listing. Talk about some hot musical real estate. However, if combined, Moullinex's "Open House" and my aforementioned hobby would quickly turn into a house party the house wouldn't be able to recover from.
Benji Lewis - Drift
This song is me on a good one. I'd say about three or four drinks in when my bloodstream is met with the ethanol of whatever alcohol I'm drinking and its molecules are interfering with my brain's normal activities. In a very good way. Benji Lewis's new single, "Drift," is also similar to when an airplane flies just above the clouds -- peaceful with patches of blue water and twinkling lights from both land and boats peeking through while drifting by below.
Maggie Rogers - On + Off (Music Video)
Just when I thought I couldn't love Maggie Rogers anymore, she drops this routine while giving us Elvis realness right out the gate. As a guy whose family owns a dance company, I'm going to refrain from comments like "point your toes," and "lift your shoulders back." That would be missing the point entirely. These girls are so obviously comfortable in her own skin, and that’s just plain inspiring to those watching. And Maggie's voice? It sounds like it’s taken a lifetime of living, and seasons of weather to distress and wear down her chords to perfection. The whole package is First Class. Her eyes prove it, so knowingly staring into you and providing a compelling, scintillating performance. Now if she'd only follow me back on Twitter...
Roland Tings - Higher Ground (feat. Nylo)
If Roland Tings set out to take me to higher ground with his latest single, consider me way the heck up here looking down. You had me at shimmery synths. Add in the island-infused drum rhythms and you're about to take me over the edge! "Higher Ground" and "over the edge" isn't an ideal combination but the song's telling me "we could have it all" so I'm going for it.
Erin McCarley - Good (Music Video)
I'm just gonna be honest here. While Linus von Stumberg is a talented dude equipped with alluring choreography, it is no match for the kind of moves this song -- Erin McCarley's "GOOD" -- has resurrected from me in my car while driving. Not only do I know all the lyrics, I know all the song's intricacies proven while having channeled my inner Beyonce, singing and dancing along. The steering wheel, seat belt strap, dashboard: all props. The rear-view mirror: just another camera angle. The cars around me honking because I'm suddenly driving upside-down: the fans. All GOOD.
