Bernice: St Lucia

bernice-st-lucia A couple years ago I checked something fun off my bucket list. I played St. Lucia (the indie-pop band) in St. Lucia (the eastern Caribbean island). Well, someone hand me an eraser because in light of "St Lucia," the brand new song by Bernice, the experimental pop alter ego of Toronto’s Robin Dann, I might need to call my travel agent to make a second visit.

“Named after my great auntie Irene (middle name Lucia), the song works as a reminder to myself of all the women in my family who lived before me. 'I wonder what of me is you?'” Robin Dann says of the track.

This bouncy, experimental track is the first off Bernice's upcoming album which was co-produced by Grammy Award winner Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Lucius) and Matt Smith (Owen Pallett) and co-mixed/mastered by experimental musician Sandro Perri (Polmo Polpo). For me, learning that Dann's the daughter of a symphony harpist and the former Toronto Symphony Orchestra's principle violist, and a graduate of Goldsmiths' MA in Music, makes this even more exciting and shifts just about every radar I have onto her.
