[PREMIERE] ayokay Feat. Quinn XCII: Kings of Summer
This is Summertime nostalgia par excellence; the equivalent to opening a time capsule (in this case, literally) and finding magic ingredients you can't buy, and which is created by childhood friends with a deeply-rooted affection for one another. From the music to the aesthetic, ayokay's music video for "Kings of Summer," featuring Quinn XCII, is about friendship first.
"Kings of Summer is our best representation of where we come from, and the nostalgia we feel when we think back on our childhood. The song itself paints such a sonic picture, so we wanted the visuals to match in a way that strengthened the overall story and message." - ayokay
Reminiscent of younger days when things were easier and more carefree (at least in our minds), there's something here so relatable - figurative a rope swing for everyone to grab hold of. When I was a kid, I remember I was always awake early, the windows were flung wide open seconds later, with double-barreled fans going full blast. I'd have breakfast on the steps of our home's big wraparound porch, just waiting for the neighborhood kids to come out to play. And boy did we give the Summer sun a run for its warmth, having fun, causing trouble, making memories, getting wet and sunburned.
"The song is our interpretation of a summer day in Michigan by the lake where we grew up. It's a really different kind of summer than in most places and something people from Michigan are proud of. It was important to us that the video recreated that picture of the lake vibe, and capture the feeling of youthfulness and nostalgia that the song does." - Quinn XCII
