Quinn XCII: Bloom EP

Quinn XCII If you haven’t heard of Quinn XCII, consider yourself in for a spectacular aural treat. The Michigan based musician brings a padded hip-hop sound that’s wrapped in a shimmering sheen of tropics that’s extremely hard to resist. And his newest EP, Bloom, explores the lighter side of that electronic whimsy in full brilliance.

While this entire record is like candy to our earholes, our favorite tracks are probably the trio of Light On, Bootleggin, and Bones. The intro tracks wraps us up in heaps of sunlighted synthesis, while Bootleggin sweeps us into a shimmering, elastic sonic exploration that sounds like a steel-drum edition of Chance The Rapper. Bones sets the mood with glistening outro vibes, twisting and turning into a down-tempo number with heart and sparkle -- a brilliant bookend to this 7 track EP.

In an age where producer and writer credits usually run sky-high, it’s an absolute treat to hear Quinn CXII put out a record that has one and only one producer on it (in this case the exquisitely talented ayokay). It provides a grounding and cogent sonic ground on which this young lyricist explores familiar themes with wisdom far beyond his years. Quinn XCII = Certified KKS Gold
