Mike Stud: Black Out
So many times in hip-hop elements of musicality are forced to take the backseat to stronger lyrical content. Where there are strong verses, there's usually a weak chorus. It's a rap dichotomy that -unfortunately - happens all too often. But that's not the case on Mike Stud's Black Out. There's no compromise necessary. We get 100% hook and we get 100% hip-hop. And we couldn't be more into it.
The Rhode Island artist addresses rising fame in Black Out with lyrics that smartly quip, 'I'd rather be broke than be rich alone'. And with music augmented by brooding synths, bits of piano, and a drum section that hits the downbeat in all the right ways, there's no question that Mike Stud has struck gold with this tune. We're keeping our fingers slammed onto the repeat button.
This track is just one of ten stellar tunes released on Mike's newest album These Days, full of impeccable, forward-thinking hip-hop. After debuting at #1 on iTune's Hip-Hop charts and #5 on the Overall Charts, it's safe to say Mike's reign is in no way slowing down anytime soon. Check out iTunes for the album, or do it one better and see him at one of the 40 tour dates he's playing this January + February. (Tickets!)
