Louis The Child Feat. K.Flay: It's Strange
As I awoke to the sound of rain outside my window, I could feel it push me over to the wrong side of the bed and remind me all at once that my beloved summer is once again leaving me for its cuter, more petite mistress country down under; a realization I just wasn't quite ready or prepared to handle this morning. Salt, meet open gaping wound. By some grace of God, the absolute perfect song then fell in my lap to help me come to terms with my current situation and aid in this scary transition from sunshine and tropicocktails into the dark realities of rain and irish coffees forecasted in the days ahead. I owe absolutely every step placed in front of the other today to Louis The Child's therapeutic jam "It's Strange" feat. K.Flay. When familiar synthy sounds of summer are chilled down a bit with a cool steel drum-esque beat and dreamy vocs, it becomes the perfect tweener jam to get you through when you're feeling a bit stuck in the middle. If I have any chance of emotionally surviving this day, I better make like Gloria and turn the beat of today right the fuck around and proceed in ignorant bliss. Don't get me wrong, I love a hard hitting summer anthem as much as the next guy, but it all seems a bit too soon right now. I could choose in these last moments to stand here in the rain and re-proclaim my love to Summer like Ryan Gosling to Rachel McAdams in the Notebook. It wasn't over. It STILL isn't over!! Except instead of being mounted by a season for a sexy rain make out sesh that inevitably ends in heartbreak, I've decided to cope with the final days in peace. Perhaps I'll push all of my living room furniture aside, make nothing but frozen fancy cocktails, and invite everyone I know to come over and enjoy the same gift of sonic therapy healing provided by Louis The Child, where nothing except this song will be played and we shall dance around indoors in our bathing suits all day. That is unless they've also got a mean take on Missy Elliot's "I Can't Stand the Rain" somewhere up their sleeve, in which case I could make an exception to throw into the rotation. Until then, pass the colada to the right hand side and knock the dust off that umbrella while you're at it. I'm going to need pick up more party supplies soon and I'm not trying to get my sunglasses wet.
