Monarch: Snow White
Be still, my beating heart! The men of Monarch are back once again, solidifying their sovereign head of state title with the release of "Snow White", and proving once again our emotions and ability to feel are not determined by the democracy of our own control, but of the sweet indie-pop synth melodies of the Monarch. For years I've been convinced that I've been missing that puzzle piece everyone seems to talk about located in the central region between the clavicle and the ribcage. The area that prompts you to do things like give away the upgrade you've been waiting two long years to cop that newest iPhone for, to the one you say you couldn't live without instead, just to see them smile. And then promptly throw it out the car door window the next day unto oncoming traffic the moment "Debbie from work" calls and they refuse to pick it up in your presence. Love is a crazy bitch I'd rather not fuck with. Why smash a phone you paid for when you can get your hair did, nails did, everything did? Up until this point I have been preachin' the gospel of livin la vida sola, living the fast life with the freedom of switching lanes and passing by all the dummies paired up and stuck within the double yellow lined constraints of the carpool lane and missing their exit every time. Today, however, as the haunting sounds of "Snow White" crept in, it seemed to slow everything down, put my world on pause for just a few moments and forced me to close my eyes and address all the feels going on in that once vacant space where hearts claim to be. And then it happened. All of a sudden I felt the urge to grab my laptop and immediately investigate the status of my AT&T contract for an eligible upgrade. Oh God. Is this really happening? Did I seriously just call and willingly cancel my hair appointment tomorrow? Yes, yes I did. And why? Because all I wanna do (besides have some fun with Sheryl Crow on Santa Monica Blvd.) is spend all of my savings on the grandest iPhone ever made to bestow upon each royal member of Monarch, as a token of my love and affection; for showing me how to feel again through their gift of song. And of course, just to see them smile. In the name of the Monarch, the music, and the holy manbun. Amen.
