Stroik: Number One Blind

Stroik Number One Blind "With your makeup put aside like you don't know me / I don't want to see you cry if you're not happy / But I just wanted you to know that you know me/ With your makeup on like I won't see you again / Will you think of me even if we never touched again?"

If anyone in recent memory knows how to so simply and effectively hook a listener with intriguing heartfelt introduction I can think of no other at the moment. Stroik's new offering from his soon to be debut EP Career Girls lifts off a bit more delicately than most other sides this time just a voice and pretty Rhodes leading the unusually detailed pathos of lost love. The songwriter/singer/producer's croon isn't far removed from the delivery of young soulfuls a la Tobias Jesso Jr or Mac Demarco and it's nice to hear in the same room as 00's, 90's, 80's or whichever era he thoughtfully borrows. "All I want to say to you now is irrelevant / All I ever needed from you does not exist / I just guess I saw you through the silent mist" goes the story before a chorus blooms full with each augmented sound blending seamlessly. As per usual with Stroik it isn't long before we're steeped in fantastic musical eccentricities; crawling pad, rap toms, big band brass, claps, surprisingly epic timpani.

Love Our Records will release Stroik's début EP Career Girls. I can faithfully and anxiously ensure this to be a memorable release we here at Kick Kick Snare hope to not let get lost in blog fodder shuffle. It's a record that grows with each return unveiling troves of sonic wonder. Stay tuned for a full stream and release in April.
