Lyon & Lowe: Nothing Like Me

Lyon_&_Lowe_Nothing_Like_Me_ 640_Kick_Kick_snare The trajectory Lyon & Lowe has made in the few months they've been active has been interesting to say the least. From the blistering electro psych pop of debut "Like Oedipus" to the minimalist and stark "Some People" to the recent breakout pop gem "Girlfriend" (the most accessible of their releases so far), this duo of transcontinental pop wizards seem unfazed by genre or restrictions artists often self-impose and are making wildly inventive future-pop with unusually vulnerable and thoughtful lyrics on top of it all. It's quite impressive so far.

And yet here we have another new single, "Nothing Like Me," that displays how easily they can and will reinvent the blog wheel. Over dreamy lush synth pad chords we hear the story of heartbreak but not just any kind for that matter. What might be your usual blog pop hit instead here morphs into something much more interesting. "When I think all about all the people I knew who believe that regret isn't fate and so true. There's a fatalist inside me who knew maybe that is the reason I haven't come through" croons the reflective vocalist before the song beautifully ascends into Ultravisitor era Squarepusher territory and fulfills what the initial verses promise.
