New Artist & Video: Dutch Party
To say that I came here to write about one specific track or video would be a lie. A kind, well intentioned, sweet lie that only you wonderful readers could forgive me for.
As that last bit of light in 2014 begins to fade, and the "Best Of" lists are compiled, it might seem surprising that new artists are cropping out of the woodwork. There's the beauty of music for you- even as the sun sets the artistic wheels of it all never stop turning. It's for that reason that we continue to eat up and absorb the new as we reflect upon the "old."
Through a happenstance encounter that only Craigslist, kittens, and dear friends can be to blame, I came across LA's Dutch Party. Creating music reminiscent of a simplistic 70s paisley cool hunted for at flea markets, Dutch Party's tone is refreshing. While it's briskly cold here in southern California, Ken Franklin's Dutch Party will keep me warm as I walk to work each morning; comforting like that cheap cup of black coffee at my favorite diner. I'm now downright giddy for the Los Angeles spring.
With two tracks and video released this month and more to follow, Dutch Party is sure to be the sparkling wit to 2015's inevitable sarcasm.
In the meantime while we wait, listen to the tracks below and follow the socials: Facebook & Instagram.
And be sure to check out Dutch Party's video for Echo Girl here.
