Daughter: Winter (Warpaint Remix)
On first listen, you might be thinking: “Warpaint? I don’t hear any Warpaint.”. The remix is up-tempo, heavily electronic, and invitingly dancey, all adjectives not normally associated with the wonderfully dysphoric alt. rock outfit. When listening for the second/third/hundredth time, you’ll gradually notice their mannerisms bringing something heavy to Daughter’s vapor. We’re met with uneasiness from swelling sirens, franticness from interjecting guitar lines, and intrusiveness from quietly ominous vocal bits by the Warpaint girls. The result is an end-of-the-world dance track that holds all the warning signs of an impending apocalypse while encouraging us to dance through it all. This is the first of two one-off remixes by the pair, making the next a Daughter remix of a to-be-announced Warpaint track. Mark your calendars: it’s out December 1st.
