Escape Music Festival 2014 Wrap Up

Escape Music Festival 2014 This weekend I had the pleasure of taking a little ferry over to Governor's Island to take part in Escape Music Festival (presented by emerging lifestyle clothing brand MyLife) and let me just start off by saying that they absolutely nailed this venue location. Having the concrete jungle as back drop in all of its glory was in itself enough to keep endorphins at a max high all weekend.

Saturday night featured back to back closing headliners Placebo and Moby, which made for an interesting transition of headbanging into shuffling amongst fans. I have to say I was a little surprised to see as many people go crazy for these artists who have been banging out music before most of these people were born but hey, I'm all for it. You go Glen Coco! Preceding this, Ra Ra Riot and Yeasayer kept everyone in good spirits with their feel good tunes despite the finicky weather outside. Let's just be honest though, it was Sunday that really stole the show for me. Can we just first talk about the weather? I mean, gorgeous! The whole faux beach, clear sky, sunshine thing was really giving autumn (and California) a run for its money.

The Most Definitely, Alex English and Sleepy Boo all made for a perfect energizing start to the afternoon. I tried to keep my ADD on lock through ASTR, but somewhere in between Sebastien Leger and Miss Kitten I was like 6th grader status at 2:30pm on a Friday, anxiously waiting for the bell to ring so I could get home in time to record the latest TRL on my VHS mixtape. Obvi the TRL in this case would be Girl Talk. Finally 11:00pm came around (such a tease) but ladies and gentlemen...it was WORTH.THE.WAIT! Greg Gillis of Girl Talk is a god of mash-ups. Dare I say musical sorcerer? Oh yes. Yes i do, indeed! This mofo brought the damn house down and kept everyone dancing until past midnight. Shit was getting super wild in there. People jumping on DJ tables. Giant inflatable hands and legs in the air. Confetti was also involved. Like I said, shit got cray. So if you happened to miss it this weekend... well, sucks to suck I guess. You missed out hard. I suppose you'll just have to wait another year till the next one comes along!
