[PREMIERE] Caught A Ghost: Relentless
Are you a fan of irrepressible retro-pop with a gritty edge? “Relentless” (out on iTunes via +1 Records on 7/29) is a glorious collision of pinballing beats and rousing vocals, elevated by the combined efforts of Los Angeles born and bred Jesse Nolan and Tessa Thompson. Together, they form an undeniable one-two punch, and a brilliant introduction to the fantastically varied oeuvre of Caught A Ghost. Prepare to be seduced with their blaxploitation-esque horn stabs, weary croon and defiant lyrics that are the perfect balance of commanding and sweet. All the elements of an ecstatic psych-pop explosion with thumping beats and addictive hooks are ever-present, making it nearly impossible for listeners not to get out of their seats.
For those interested in remaining in their seats, might I suggest doing so in the theater this Fall? 'Dear White People' is a new film starring Caught a Ghost’s Tessa Thompson, and Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions has set an official theatrical debut of October 17, 2014. After the movie premiered at Sundance (Jury Prize 2014 Winner), critic and fan buzz has been overwhelming. Check out the trailer here, which also features CAG’s music!
"Relentless is a song about being frustrated with someone who can't seem to get it together. I think we can all identify with the feeling of having a friend to seems perfectly capable of self-determination but for whatever reason they are stuck in a state of paralysis. Oddly enough, in the context of our live show the song has become about why people don't dance at shows. So the song has become an inside joke about crowd dynamics with myself while I'm singing . I find it interesting to watch the different ways people internalize music and the process of deciding whether or not the feel free enough to move in reaction. I think it's cool to see all the ways people enjoy music, but sometimes you can tell an audience member is just dying to move around and is trying to work up the courage." - Jesse Nolan
