Basement Jaxx: Never Say Never (feat. ETML)

Basement Jaxx - Never Say Never Let me start by saying that I've always been a huge fan of Basement Jaxx. Their albums Rooty (2001) & Scars (2009) are prime examples of how the British duo can take us on a musical journey from tropical South America, to tribal Africa, to a UK nightclub and, on occasion, to church.

But, I'll be honest. I haven't been too thrilled with their recent recordings. Their last album Zephyr (2009) and, most recently, their track "Mermaid of Salinas" (off the upcoming release Junto) didn't blow me away.

The shining light, however, is a new track that has surfaced off Junto. "Never Say Never" features fellow Brit ETML and, for long-time Basement Jaxx fans, it delivers. The song has a wonderful ratio of vocals to instrumentals that will have you both grooving and singing along. Pay special attention to the percussions that happen early on and to the vocal break-down toward the end; where you'll hear female vocals layered on top of ETML's.

We'll find out how the rest of Junto compares to their previous recordings when the album drops on August 25th.
