Above & Beyond: Hello (Official Video)
This new Above and Beyond video release for their single “ Hello” just brought me back to so many places and emotions that I was definitely not prepared for this morning. It took me three consecutive attempts to watch the video before I could actually tell you what happened in it. Every time I pressed play, my conscious was ripped away intermittently from out of my present body at light speed to a nostalgic galaxy of memory stars and then back again to earth once each encountered star had relived itself and burned out, snapping me back to reality and the sensory experience at hand. It started with that familiar sound rushing into my ears that first launched me out of this world. BAM. June 2011: EDC. Above and Beyond in front of me, in me, throughout me, filling my entire body with this musical sublime I remember wondering if I would ever be able to attain again. I mean like, without the molly, obvi. Which it did. Just now. Anyway back to the screen. Pointe shoe. BAM. 1999: Back in the dance studio. Back with the friends that would become family. God, I really did hate taking ballet though. Eating hot dogs are surmountably more enjoyable. Screen again. Are those cornrows? BAM. July 2001: Cancun. Struttin’ my extra supa fly self around sportin my new braided do and looking like I’m off to compete in a Bo Derek look alike contest. I really hope there isn’t photographic evidence of this somewhere… Screen: Empire State. BAM. Summer 2013: New York. OMG I FUCKING LOVE THIS CITY. BAM. October 2013 : New York. They have seasons here? Is that seriously a 65 year old woman on roller skates dressed up like Rainbow Bright? OMG I FUCKING LOVE THIS CITY. And then finally everything stops and I’m back. How long was I out for? All of that in three minutes and 41 seconds? That’s when I realized this was a roller coaster I was going to have to ride again. And probably for the rest of the day. You should too. You might be surprised at the places Above and Beyond will bring you back to through this new video, and you definitely won’t be complaining about that smile on your face for the rest of the day. Except that is if it makes you want to text an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend afterwards. Don’t do that. Just stick to the music.
