Wildarms: U Don't Understand
There are specific moments in music that I genuinely look forward to and constantly seek out. These include tracks that make me feel ethereal and want to dance while smiling like a buffoon (a feat sometimes quite embarrassing as I’m often in public). Chasing this feeling is addictive and time consuming, but my job is made easy when beautiful tracks arrive at my proverbial doorstep. Cascine’s very own, Wildarms, has done just that with the latest release “U Don’t Understand.”
It’s synth heavy and sexy all rolled into one-not something I would expect from the eclectic artist on such an experimental pop label. That’s just it- this shock factor of surprise has me wanting more and more. Since it is only four minutes and thirty seconds long, I’ve settled upon listening to it ten times in a row. A natural and healthy response, of course.
It evokes a kaleidoscope of colors while simultaneously embracing this sensation of power and acceptance. The refrain of the tracks very name acts as the perfect anchor to keep listeners from floating away into its synth rich alter-universe. It’s this very juxtaposition between words and 80s reminiscent hooks that keeps me around. Cascine, a Brooklyn and London based label, very rarely leave me disappointed, but this is a different kind of satisfaction. Wildarms has made a track that somehow encompasses the fragility of beauty and touched upon the idea that nothing is permanent. I’ve got a smile on the back burner waiting for the next release from this thoughtful and emotion-provoking artist. Look for the Just For Love EP to drop on December 17th.
