Scott' Playlist 50: It's All Downhill From Here
The end of summer doesn’t mean the end of good times. In fact, fall is one of the best times for new music to come out. Check out PLAYLIST 50: It’s All Downhill From Here for some inspiration and rejuvenation as you start a new season.
Start with the always-reliable RAC. Known for their fantastic remixes, the Remix Artist Collective has been branching out into original production work. “Let Go” would have been on repeat all summer, so it’s a perfect transition song. Continue on to stellar tracks by St. Lucia, HAIM (if ever there was a breakout hit, this would be it), and Au Revoir Simone. Then try not to listen to “Nirvana” by Sam Smith on repeat. I dare you.
I’ve been hearing good things about BANKS, and the Snakehips remix of “Warm Water” is really great. If you’re like me, you didn’t think you could possibly stomach another listen to Daft Punk’s annoyingly ubiquitous anthem “Get Lucky,” but this Huglife remix transforms it into a completely different sound.
“Someday” is the debut single of singer/songwriter Eddie Gomez, and it somehow manages to blend a hard-hitting blues jam with a catchy pop sound. Thank producers Captain Cuts (and Gomez for his crazy-good voice). In the slightly-similar vein, I’m loving Dan Croll and PAPA, giving some good rock vibes to this mostly dance pop-y playlist.
Excited to see MS MR in NYC at the end of this month. Thanks again to RAC for making everything sound even better. Holy Ghost! has steadily been making the retirement of LCD Soundsystem more bearable.
Diane Coffee is the new solo project of Foxygen drummer Shaun Fleming. After moving to New York from California and catching a heavy flu, he spent two weeks holed up sick and depressed, but emerged with a fantastic new album. Rounding out the playlist are dreamy tracks from Mons Montis (unsurprisingly Swedish), The Colourist, and Goldroom.
So while it may not be quite time to pull out your fall coats, let this playlist help you get over your end-of-summer depression and look forward to the next few months of great music. Enjoy!
